This is the latest story in The Diversity Box, our new series looking at representation in the workplace.

Arwa Mahdawi has an easy fix for any company that wants to look like it cares about diversity, without needing to tackle the bigger issues: simply rent a minority.

The artist and entrepreneur runs a parody website which offers “a minority for every occasion” – a barb aimed at companies that just try to tackle diversity on the surface, without fighting inequality in any meaningful way.

She hopes that adding a touch of humour will get more people to engage with what can be a bleak and difficult subject.
